Dr Edward Brooks, Executive Director of the Oxford Character Project, contributed key insights at the Global Symposium on Character and Service-Learning, held at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) on 1–2 March 2024. The symposium focused on integrating character education and service-learning to cultivate ethical leadership among students.
The symposium brought together educators, researchers, and policymakers to discuss best practices in character education. Topics included fostering civic engagement, social responsibility, and ethical leadership through service-learning initiatives.
Dr Brooks’ contributions reinforced the need for universities to embed character education into curricula, ensuring students develop the virtues necessary for meaningful and responsible leadership. His workshop, Leading with Character: How to Develop the Personal Qualities That Set Great Leaders Apart, provided practical guidance on cultivating these essential traits, equipping students with the skills to lead ethically and effectively in an evolving world.
